Maternity Photography in Hampshire: A Complete Guide for Expectant Mums
By Tunde Kugler | Tunde Kugler Photography, Eversley, Hampshire
Pregnancy is one of the most extraordinary journeys a woman will ever experience. Your body is doing something miraculous, and those months of anticipation, wonder and excitement deserve to be captured beautifully. As a professional maternity photographer based in Eversley, Hampshire, I work with expectant mums from across the region — from Camberley and Bracknell to Fleet, Farnborough, Reading, Ascot, Bagshot, Lightwater and beyond — to create timeless, elegant portraits they'll treasure for the rest of their lives.
If you're expecting and wondering whether a maternity photoshoot is right for you, this guide answers everything you need to know.
Why Have a Maternity Photoshoot?
Many mums-to-be tell me they almost didn't book — and every single one says it's one of the best decisions they made during their pregnancy.
Here's why:
Your bump is temporary. Those beautiful, rounded curves, that glowing skin, the anticipation written across your face — they exist for such a short window of time. A professional maternity shoot captures that version of you forever, so your child can one day see just how loved they were even before they arrived.
It's also a chance to celebrate yourself. Pregnancy is hard work. Your body is changing every day, and it's easy to feel tired, uncomfortable or self-conscious. A maternity shoot is your moment to feel genuinely beautiful, seen and celebrated — because you absolutely are.
And finally, the photographs become a family treasure. Parents from Bracknell, Camberley, Fleet and Reading who've visited my studio often tell me their maternity portraits are among the most viewed photos in their home — on walls, in albums, shared with grandparents.
When Is the Best Time to Book?
The ideal window for a maternity photoshoot is between 28 and 34 weeks of pregnancy. At this stage:
Your bump is beautifully round and full
You're still comfortable enough to enjoy the session
There's enough time to receive your images before baby arrives
The risk of early labour is low
I recommend getting in touch to book from around 20 weeks — my diary fills up quickly and popular dates go fast, especially in spring and autumn. I serve families across a wide area including Camberley, Bracknell, Farnborough, Fleet, Hook, Yateley, Ascot, Bagshot, Lightwater, Reading, Finchampstead and Crowthorne, so if you're expecting in any of these areas, don't leave it too late!
What Should I Wear?
This is one of the most common questions I get from expectant mums — and the good news is, you don't need to go shopping.
In general, here's what works beautifully:
Long, flowing dresses in soft fabrics like chiffon or jersey — they drape beautifully and flatter the bump
Solid colours — cream, white, blush, dusty blue, sage green and terracotta all photograph wonderfully
Off-shoulder or one-shoulder styles — elegant and timeless
Form-fitting fabrics that gently hug the bump
What to avoid:
Busy patterns or large logos
Stiff fabrics that don't move naturally
Anything that makes you feel uncomfortable or self-conscious
I also have a beautiful collection of custom-made maternity gowns available in the studio — one size fits all, and they're designed specifically to look stunning in photographs. Many clients from Farnborough, Fleet and Camberley arrive in their own outfit and then try one of my gowns and end up using both!
What Happens During a Maternity Session?
My studio in Eversley is a calm, welcoming space designed to make you feel completely at ease from the moment you arrive. Here's what a typical session looks like:
Arrival - There's no rush. We'll have a chat, you can get settled, and we'll talk through the shots you'd love to achieve. If you'd like to include your partner or other children, we plan those shots in too.
The shoot - I guide you through every pose naturally and gently. You don't need any modelling experience - my job is to make you look and feel incredible. We'll try a variety of looks, outfits and settings throughout the session.
Partner and family shots - Some of my most emotional and treasured images are the ones that include partners cradling the bump, or toddlers kissing mummy's tummy. These are always worth including.
After the session - Your beautifully edited images will be delivered to a private online gallery within two weeks. From there you can choose your favourites and select your prints, canvas or digital package.
