Family Photographer in Hampshire: Capturing Your Family Exactly as You Are

By Tunde Kugler | Tunde Kugler Photography, Eversley, Hampshire

Families are messy, loud, loving, chaotic and completely wonderful. And the best family photographs capture all of that - not a stiff, posed lineup, but the real warmth, connection and personality that makes your family uniquely yours.

As a professional family photographer based in Eversley, Hampshire, I work with families from across the region - Fleet, Hook, Camberley, Bracknell, Farnborough, Reading, Ascot, Bagshot, Lightwater, Yateley and beyond — to create natural, relaxed portraits that you'll genuinely love looking at for decades to come.

If you've been thinking about booking a family photoshoot but aren't quite sure where to start, this guide is for you.

Why Now Is Always the Right Time

One of the most common things I hear from parents is "we'll do it when the kids are a bit older" or "we'll wait until we're all looking our best." And I completely understand that feeling - but I'd gently encourage you to reconsider.

Your family right now, today, is something you'll never get back. That gap between your eldest's front teeth. The way your toddler still reaches up for your hand. The baby who fits perfectly in the crook of your arm. These things change so fast, and photographs are the only way to hold onto them.

Families from Bracknell, Fleet, Camberley and Reading who've visited my studio often tell me the same thing: the photos from when the children were small are the ones they treasure most.

There is never a perfect time. There is only now - and now is always worth capturing.

Studio or Outdoor - Which Is Right for You?

This is a question I get asked a lot, and the honest answer is that both can produce beautiful results. Here's how to think about it:

Studio sessions are ideal if:

  • You have young babies or toddlers who need a controlled, warm environment

  • You want a clean, timeless look that won't date

  • You'd like consistency across outfits and backdrops

  • The British weather feels like too much of a gamble!

My studio in Eversley is purpose-built for family photography - warm, welcoming, fully equipped with beautiful backdrops and props, and designed to feel relaxed rather than clinical. Families drive from as far as Reading and Bracknell for studio sessions and find the journey absolutely worth it.

Outdoor sessions work beautifully for:

  • Families who want a natural, lifestyle feel

  • Parents who want to capture their children running, laughing and being themselves in open space

  • Golden hour shoots in summer and autumn especially

I'm happy to discuss which style would suit your family best when you get in touch.

What to Wear for a Family Photoshoot

Getting outfits right makes a huge difference to the final photographs - and it doesn't need to be complicated.

The golden rules:

Coordinate, don't match. You don't need identical outfits - in fact, perfectly matching outfits can look a little stiff. Instead, choose a colour palette and stick to it. Neutrals (cream, white, grey, camel) always work beautifully, as do soft tones like sage green, dusty blue and blush pink.

Keep it simple. Avoid busy patterns, large logos or anything too trendy that might date the photos quickly. Classic, simple clothing keeps the focus where it should be - on your faces and your connection.

Dress for comfort. Children especially need to feel comfortable and like themselves. If your little one hates wearing stiff trousers or scratchy dresses, don't force it - a relaxed child makes for much better photographs.

Layer up. Layers add visual interest - a denim jacket over a white top, a chunky knit cardigan, a soft scarf. These little details make the images feel lived-in and real.

What Happens During a Family Session?

From the moment you arrive at the studio, there's no pressure and no rush. Here's how a typical session flows:

Settling in — Children often need a few minutes to warm up to a new environment and a new face. That's completely normal and I always build this time into the session. We'll have a chat, explore the space, and let everyone relax naturally.

The shoot — I use a mix of gentle direction and purely candid moments. I'll suggest positions and interactions, but I also step back and let things happen naturally — the spontaneous laugh, the sibling cuddle, the moment Dad makes everyone giggle. These are often the very best shots.

Individual and group shots — We'll capture the whole family together, siblings together, parent-and-child moments, and individual portraits of each child. Every combination that matters to you.

The little ones set the pace — If someone needs a snack break, a nappy change or five minutes to run around, we take it. The session moves at your family's pace, not mine.
