Newborn Photographer Near Reading: What Every New Parent Needs to Know

By Tunde Kugler | Tunde Kugler Photography, Eversley, Hampshire

If you're expecting a baby and live in or around Reading, you might be wondering when to book a newborn photographer — and whether travelling a little further for the right one is worth it. As a professional newborn photographer just 30 minutes from Reading, I want to answer all of those questions and help you feel completely prepared for one of the most special sessions you'll ever have.

Why Newborn Photography Matters More Than You Think

The first days and weeks of your baby's life pass in a blur. The exhaustion, the emotion, the sheer wonder of this tiny new person — it's overwhelming in the most beautiful way. And before you know it, those newborn curls, that scrunched-up sleeping pose, those impossibly small fingers and toes — they're gone.

Professional newborn photography captures all of it. Not just a photo, but a feeling. A moment frozen in time that you'll return to again and again as your child grows.

Parents from Reading who've visited my studio in Eversley often tell me the same thing afterwards: "I'm so glad we did this." It's never something families regret.

When Should You Book?

This is the most important question — and the answer surprises many parents.

Book during your pregnancy, not after your baby arrives.

My diary fills up quickly, and I can only take a limited number of clients each month to give every family the time and care they deserve. I recommend getting in touch from around 20 weeks pregnant, once you have a rough due date.

Don't worry if your baby arrives early or late — I always build flexibility into my schedule to accommodate this. Once you're booked in, we'll confirm the exact session date once your little one arrives.

When Is the Best Time for a Newborn Session?

The golden window for newborn photography is between 8 and 14 days old. At this age, babies are:

  • Sleepy and settled, which allows for gentle posed shots

  • Still in their beautiful "newborn curl" — that naturally scrunched position

  • Small enough to fit perfectly in baskets, bowls and wraps

  • Calm enough for the session to be a relaxed, enjoyable experience for everyone

After two weeks, babies become more alert and harder to settle, which makes the session longer and more challenging for both baby and parents. So the earlier you book during pregnancy, the better.

What Happens During a Session?

My studio is based in Eversley, Hampshire — just a short drive from Reading along the A327 or M4. It's a warm, calm, beautifully equipped space designed with newborns in mind.

Here's what a typical session looks like:

Arrival and settling in — There's no rush. We start with a feed and a cuddle, letting your baby (and you!) settle into the space at your own pace.

The shoot — I work entirely at your baby's pace. If they need feeding, changing or comforting, we stop. Safety is always the priority, and I never force a pose or position that your baby isn't comfortable with.

Props and outfits — I have an extensive collection of wraps, blankets, hats, bonnets, baskets, wooden bowls, and beautiful backdrops. You don't need to bring anything special — just your baby and yourselves. I also have a selection of outfits available.

Parents and siblings — I always include some beautiful parent and family shots too. These are often the ones that become the most treasured.

After the session — Your images are carefully edited and delivered to a private online gallery within two weeks, where you can choose your favourites and select your prints, canvas or USB package.

How Far Is It from Reading?

My studio in Eversley is approximately 30–35 minutes from Reading town centre, depending on your route. Most Reading families find it a very easy journey — a pleasant drive through the Hampshire countryside.

From the RG1–RG6 postcodes, the most straightforward route is via the A33 south towards Basingstoke, then cutting across to Eversley. Many clients from Woodley, Earley, Caversham and Tilehurst tell me the journey goes by quickly — and that arriving at a calm, dedicated studio (rather than having a photographer come to a busy home) makes the whole experience feel special.

What Packages Are Available?

I offer three newborn packages to suit different needs and budgets:

Basic — £325 2–3 hour session, 10 digital images on USB, 12x18 canvas

Standard — £375 4 hour session, 20 digital images on USB, 14x20 canvas

Premium — £475 4–5 hour session, 35 digital images on USB, 20x30 canvas

I also offer a Combined Maternity & Newborn package at £550, which is perfect if you'd like to document both the bump and the baby with a consistent, beautiful look across both sets of images.

A £75 booking fee secures your date, which is deducted from your final package cost.
